Customised employment is a person-centred approach job searching. We identify the skills, interests and strengths a person has and develop an employment opportunity that highlights the value of the person, while making necessary accommodations for disability.
We do not focus on what a person’s disability, but highlight their unique abilities and skills.
A Microenterprise is a small, often one-person, business. This can be a market stall where a mentee sells their handmade wares, a pet-sitting business, lawn care, yoga instruction or any other small startup-style opportunity.
We support our mentees in setting up and advertising their Microenterprise, and building their business network.
Yes of course we do! Mentees with an active NDIS Plan and access to Capacity Building – Finding and Keeping a Job are welcome to contact us directly or though their Support Coordinator.

Towards Better works in collaboration with the mentee and the workplace to ensure smooth communication, while assisting both parties in building confidence.
For our mentees, our team will support initial engagements with the workplace and regularly check in to identify areas of improvement for safety and procedures, as well as the wellbeing of all parties.
Our ultimate goal is to phase out On-the-Job support for both the mentee and employer over time, to allow for a normal employment experience.
Customised Employment is an involved process of Discovery, Development and Support.
The initial Discovery Period takes place over 1-2 sessions before our team can begin the Job Development process, but further Discovery Sessions may be required to explore all possible career and training options.
We involve the mentees though all steps of the process, from creating a traditional or visual resume, to work experience opportunities, and onto work interviews and workplace trials.
Sometimes during this process our team will identify further training is necessary for the career path the mentee wishes to pursue.
Depending on the job market, interest of the mentee and skills we may identify a Microenterprise as the best option for meaningful employment.
The Customised Employment process is incredibly variable, with some mentees already having a clear image of what employment opportunities best suit their skills, and others needing to explore the concept of ‘meaningful employment’ from the ground up.
After the initial 1-2 Discovery Sessions our team will provide a Proposal of Service that will outline our goals for the specific mentee, and the projected cost and frequency of support.
Please be aware as the current job market is incredibly competitive, we cannot give any estimations on how long Job Development will take.
