As a Community Development Consultant, your role will include:
• Facilitating mentoring (consulting) sessions with each individual on a weekly basis
• Planning and coordinating new values roles for each mentee in non-segregated “every day” community life.
• Consulting with key stakeholders including family, supporters, friends, and community and assisting in growing the networks of individuals, especially of unpaid relationships.
• The development inclusive, welcoming communities, so that all people can meaningfully connect with, and be valued within their local community.
• The teaching and development of the person/family to lead their supports and reduce reliance on paid supports, with a particular focus on managing one’s resources for better lives.
• Developing communities to welcome and embrace the contributions of people with a disability.
• Building a strong shared vision with each individual and important people in their life of a meaningful, valued, and inclusive life including:
o Home & Neighbourhood Roles (Tenant, Homeowner, Good neighbour, Family member, homemaker, etc)
o Relationship Network & Community Roles (Club Member, Athlete, Student, Team member, active citizen, committee member, etc)
o Work Roles (Employee, Business Owner, Microenterprise Operator, Entrepreneur)
• Times where the consultant role is likely similar to a “Connector”, “Matchmaker”, “Resource guide”, “Coach” or “Mentor”.

Love2Swim – A learn to swim program for children and adults with disability. Each student will have a personal proficiency program developed as part of an overall program, catering for individual needs. Visit

Wheelchair Basketball – An exciting version of basketball that offers a great way to keep fit, develop new skills and meet new friends. The game was originally designed as a rehabilitation and recreation activity for those with a physical disability, but is now enjoyed by people of all abilities. More information at

RUBY (Rise up, Be Yourself) – A free physical fitness program for women who are, have been, or are likely to be experiencing Domestic and Family Violence (DFV). These programs are held in PCYCs across Townsville and are designed to empower women by building physical strength and contributing to general well-being, emotional resilience, self-esteem and confidence. Boccia – A bowling game similar to the Italian game of ‘bocce’ for players of all abilities including those with a physical disability. Players can have the opportunity to compete in representative boccia at regional, state, national and international levels. Visit for more information.

Goalball – An exciting team sport for athletes with a vision impairment and sighted players of all ages. Two teams of three blindfolded players throw a bell-ball toward their opponent’s goal using their body to protect their own goal. The game requires team communication, coordination and strategic skills and is a lot of fun. has more information for you.

Townsville Riding for the Disabled Association – Their horses and ponies provide therapy and fun to people with disabilities. There are social physical, psychological and educational benefits from riding with RDA. Link in by visiting

Para Powerlifting – One of the first sports contested by people with a disability and requires strength, power, coordination and dedication to training. Bella Dance Affairs – Join a dance family that strives to bring the best variety of adult dance classes with a fun, loving and encouraging environment.
